Proutist Universal Malta coordinated Erasmus+ Mobility of youth workers “Advancing competencies for training and inclusion of NEETs” through youth work with the participants from non-governmental organisations from the countries of Malta, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Luxembourg and France in Malta from 7 to 13 June, 2024.

The main objectives of the projects were:

  • To increase skills and competencies of the YW to establish entrepreneurial mentorship programs for young people.
  • To promote a vibrant entrepreneurial attitude among NEETs.
  • To promote NEETs’ social integration in the community.
  • Developing entrepreneurial competencies within Youth Workers (YW) to empower NEETs in local communities. This includes enhancing their perception, innovation, creative thinking, consciousness, determination, strategy, leadership, risk assessment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Promoting entrepreneurial mindsets and strategic approaches by providing knowledge and best practices.

  • The ” A.C.T.I.V.E.” project is designed to equip a group of youth worker (YW) from six partner organizations with entrepreneurship skills to create activities that promote the empowerment of NEETs.
  • The project aims to provide YW with specific skills and abilities in entrepreneurship, so they can help NEETs in their respective countries.
  • YW will share the knowledge they gain during the project with NEETs in their local communities.
  • This will enable them to positively contribute to the inclusion of NEETs in society and the job market, which will have a positive impact on their lives.

Participants and Activities

There were 30 Youth Workers (28 participants and 2 facilitators, 18 and above) from 6 countries of 7 partner organisations who wanted to increase their knowledge and skills in the field of inclusion and entrepreneurship for young non-students and non-employed. They wanted to Understand the concepts of planning and organization of a business venture, the basics of public communication for the presentation of an idea to be presented or for a job interview to wait and about how to position themselves in the job market develop a new attitude through new learned techniques.

Day 1

Icebreaking and team building events were organized so that the participants could get to know each other better and trust each other. Then, participants were given information about Erasmus+ and its Key Actions, the eight competencies of Youthpass and the goals of the project. At last session of the day, participants take turns confronting the whole group and discussing the frustration and oppression they experience in everyday life.

Day 2

On the second day, participants got engaged in the development and testing of a game they created themselves (Gamifying Entrepreneurship). Next session was Mapping of Future Career in which participants envisioned their future paths with guidance of trainers. The participants got engaged in a group exercise where they drew their intended career paths for the next 5 years and the specific work goals they aspire to achieve.

Day 3

On the third day, participants were guided to evaluate their efficiency of a pre-set objective in a reflective atmosphere. Then participants did a role-playing activity where they worked in small groups to solve hypothetical problems. Next session was Lego Gamification Session where Participants learned how to apply the innovative Lego Serious Play approach to enhance cooperation and teamwork in generating creative ideas.

Day 4

On the fourth day, Participants attended a TED-style conference & learned to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and strategies for future success. Then there was round table discussion with professionals to ask questions and receive personalized feedback. At Intercultural Night, participants shared and appreciated the various traditions, cuisines, dances, and cultures from their home countries. The session involved showcasing traditional music, dance performances, cooking demonstrations and role-play theater.

Day 5

On the fifth day, the whole group created board games (or other types) with environmental protection as their main topic. İn the next session, Participants were divided into 3 macro groups, which took institutional and competitive decisions for the resolution of environmental problems; The Market Lobbies, The European Commission and the Heads of Government were represented. Each group had its own reason, the success was finding an agreement.

Day 7

On the last day, participants worked created an e-book that serves as a repository for skills learned during the project, incorporating their methods and content to aid NGOs in addressing NEETs in the future. They created an online manual that consolidates and shares the project’s methods and content for future use and sustainability, alongside press releases and short videos. Last session was Youthpass Certificate distribution and feedback collection.

Day 6

On the sixth day, participants were guided to develop their communication skills and learned how to speak a specific statement in various situations. The trainer explained how to effectively use it in different contexts. Participants then participated in an interactive activity aimed at teaching them the essential elements of effective public speaking. Last session was Mindset Building Roundtable where participants took turns sharing their ideas and thoughts on mindset building in the workplace.

Impact of project ACTIVE

  • After the activities carried out during the mobility, participants were able to better assist the organizations in their local area of reference to help young people not employed in the world of work and impact their lives by improving their attitude and mindset.
  • In the long term, participants will be able to write new idea proposals for the next call in the area of work or entrepreneurship thanks to their knowledge of design dynamics.
  • Participants gained more knowledge on entrepreneurial methods through non-formal learning that could be used in the NGO of reference.
  • They assisted young people in developing greater self-confidence in order to create and implement European exchange mobilities for young people in their communities.
  • They disseminate the materials done into the activities day in a proper way to let know to other Youth Workers how to work with NEETs for helping them.
  • Participants learned how to encourage, develop, and coordinate activities on their territories to share inclusive awareness with young NEETs in their community.

NEETs, an acronym for “Not in Education, Employment, or Training,” represent a significant portion of the global population.
